I've always been a dog lover. It's something about how they are always happy to see you that had me hello!
Before I had Shepherds I had a dog or more throughout my whole life. I loved them and they were always happy to see me. But since having shepherds I doubt I could ever love another breed of dog as I do them. They connect on a different level than any other breed I've had and honestly I've enjoyed a life filled with an array of dogs.
Although there was a bond with each it does not even seem fair to compare it with a shepherds. Shepherds connect on a different level! Rather it's their intellect, loyalty or protectiveness I am unsure BUT the connection is more like that of a humans than a dogs. They seem to sense emotions, desire and need ... doing their best to for-fill whatever it is their person needs. And one thing so many view incorrectly about the breed is their gentleness, they know they are huge and they are not ones to throw their weight around UNLESS that is, their person is in harms way- then a different dog emerges. A shepherds person is what they live and breathe for... If you are present they will be at heel, they stand by your side every moment your presence allows them to do so. And give me space isn't something a shepherd is going to adhere to as it seems they "feel" they know what you want better than you. . I call them German Shadows!!
With there high level of intelligence combined with their agility & size I can understand the concerns but in over 7 years working with shepherds (and weve had over a bakers dozen at one poinT) not once have any biten a person...
they have stood by my side ensuring that they can be a boundary whenever needed. I do not doubt for even a minute a shepherd would even hesitate to give their life up to save yours !
